COLUMNS NEWSPAPER SPRNG 1992 LADY CANES WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP! BY KELLY BLACKMAN The slogan for the monlh of March throughout much of the United States Is “March Madness.” National chamionship time for college basketball has rolled around again. Though not asfanrwus as those other North Carolina collegiate chanps, the Duke Blue Devils, Louisburg’s Lady Hurricanes brought Louisburg College a share of the champi onship spotlight by winning the women’s junior college na tional championship for the first tinne since 1981. The Lady Hurricanes rolled into the tournament as the number one team in the country. Expectations were high for the Lady Canes. They did not disappoint, win ning all of their games in a most convincing manner. Most people be lieve that the National Champion ship is won in the final game. How ever, most tournament observ ers feel that Louisburg’s semi final game against national powerhouse Logan was the de ciding game of thetournament. The Logan game was close, but the Lou-U team pulled it out. Their momentum rolled them through the champion ship game and the Canes had a national championship. Students and supporters of the team held a huge cel ebration on campus the Sun day after the team’s victory. In the words of their T- shirt slogan, the Lady Canes areundisputably “Too Legit To Quit." CongratulationstoCoach Mike Holloman and the entire Lady Hur ricane basketball team on a winning season and a great effort.
